Abnormal paps are caused by HPV, which is sexually transmitted. A biopsy is usually performed when the abnormality is of a higher level(there's a whole scale) or your doctor may be acting on the side of caution due to your pregnancy. Dysplasia is abnormal cells in the cervix, due to HPV. Basically your doctor is looking to see if you have any pre-cancerous or cancerous cells in your cervix. If there are cells found then further action will be taken to try to remove them. The procedure will differ depending on the extent and location of the abnormal cells. The doctor will then follow up with regular paps, and repeat procedures as neccesary. Should she find abnormalities and is unsuccesful in removing the individual areas, then it may in very few cases, be neccesary to remove any or all of your reproductive organs including your cervix to prevent the cancer from spreading. As far as your pregnancy goes, I'm not sure how this could affect it, but that is a question for your doctor. Good luck, hope everything turns out OK!

First of all you shouldn't be getting a pap that late into pregnancy. To do a pap the doctor uses a brush and inserts the tip into the cervix (which needs to remain closed during pregnancy) and swabs around the cervix.
The group B strep is a normal culture taken during pregnancy. Some women naturally carry group B strep without any symptoms and it's not harmful except during delivery. That's why it is checked in pregnancy.
If the doctor was doing a colposcopy (which is where the physician would be taking a biopsy of the cervix) during pregnancy I would get a second opinion. I wouldn't want anyone messing with my cervix during pregnancy.
A colposcopy is done when a pap comes back abnormal. The doctor will use acetic acid (vinegar) and a microscope to see where abnormal tissue is located. Then they will pinch off pieces and send them to a lab. You would know if you were having a colposcopy done. They are usually done in a separate exam room and you would see the microscope. It looks like a pair of binoculars on a hinged post. They may also have used something called moncells to keep you from bleeding very much. It causes a black, gritty discharge that looks like coffee grounds.
I hope this helps!

well HPV is an std so the dr. told you wrong, it's an std that can lead to cervical cancer. I have had a biopsy done and I am waiting for th results. 70% women have the hpv and alot dont' know it. it could be dormant for years and then pop up. They are also chekcing for cervical cancer because a vaginal birth is comlicated if it is cervical cancer. It's been a month and I am getting my results next week....good luck and when you get the results make sure you really get all the info, I had to get a second opinion becasue the first. dr. was wrong about the hpv. It is an std and it does not go away. You have to have pap smears every three months depending what kind it is....good luck and congrats on your baby!!

Just a note, HPV is an STD but it's not something you can protect yourself from by using a condom. I have it as well and was mortified when I found out. My doc told me I could have contracted it years ago and not known it and that there is not much (other than abstinence) you can do to protect yourself. I am 39 weeks pregnant and we have kept an eye on things throughout the pregnancy and all seems well. Good luck to you and try not to worry too much ;)

HPV is what generally motives an astonishing pap. HPV does not bypass away, yet your astonishing paps, fantastically after the cryotherapy, could desire to be stop. And if certainly you do have HPV, it rather is seems such as you do. you have the variety that motives dysplasia (and cervical cancer) no longer the only that motives warts. So do no longer problem, you will no longer get warts till you settlement yet another style of HPV from somebody else (and undergo in thoughts, you may get this WITH a condom) yet i does no longer problem, your docs are retaining a watch on each and everything and cervical cancer is extremely sluggish turning out to be, so as long as you retain going to the well being practitioner you may desire to stay very healthful. it rather is extremely frightening to pay attention all at first, yet maximum persons of girls people could desire to bypass by this, so as long as you retain occurring your gyno and have secure sexual behavior, you may desire to be fantastic. :-)

As far as I know, infections are somewhat common in late pregnancy. They're just going to make sure whatever it is can't hurt the baby.

Also, many times "abnormal" paps come back normal after a second look.
