my pc installs and downloads automatic updates but i am not online - how does it know to do this and where is it getting the updates to download if im not on the internet?

i need to highlight - i AM NOT ON THE INTERNET - even when i didnt have internet service at all it still downloaded updates

Updates are normally done in the background, meaning that as long as your PC is on and connected to the internet, it will download and install updates. But you just can't see it coz it's done in the background.
You can change the settings to inform you before it installs the update by going to "Control panel" then "automatic updates"

It will d/l updates behind the scenes without you knowing. In little bits at a time until it completed then it will let you know when it is all done. you can still use your computer while it is updating.
