Meaning behind giving origami stars as gifts?

Does anyone know that whole asian (i think primarily Korean) meaning behind giving a jar of origami stars to a guy? I was told it is supposed to be a symbol that she wants to be with him or something along those lines. Is that the actual meaning? Anyone have any different answer?
