i have a mercedes diesel 350sdl. I think it has an oil leak so I want to top off the oil before I head home. What is the best oil to get for this car? I don't want to use an ycheap oil.

I really have no idea what oil is in there right now - so what would I do?

Only thing i can think of is removing all the current oil and putting in a new bottle, but how would i remove the rest of the current oil/
thanks)

You really should be using a Diesel specific motor oil, like Shell Rotella or Mobil Delvac. You may have to visit a truck stop to find them. If you're only topping off a quart, any oil will be ok. Don't worry about mixing different oils if it's just a top-up. Next oil change, buy a couple of spare quarts of whatever they are using.

BTW, you can find some excellent info on Diesel maintenance at this site:

You need to use whatever oil is already in there, you don't want to mix oils. When you get it changed a good synthetic (castrol GTX is good) , the weight depends on the weather and usage.

if the car has over 75000 miles on it i would run 15W40 Rotella oil, it has alot of detergents, and really keeps Diesel engines kickin ***....
