please excuse our Egyptian fellows as they do not seem to know what an eyewitness travel guide is.
Eyewitness travel guides are not published neither are available in Egypt, so I believe you will not be able to find any copies here. But if you are looking for eyewitness travel guide for Cairo, Egypt, you should be able to buy it from any bookstore in such as Borders or Barnes&Noble (that's if you currently live in USA)

You will have no problem finding a tour guide in Cairo.
The biggest problem will be to make sure you are hiring someone who is a competent guide.
Unfortunately there are many who claim to be tour guides but, have virtually no knowledge of Egypt's history and are only aware of the location of the major sites.
These people are usually very, very convincing and good salesmen.
They will make all sorts of statements and often present books containing supposed statements of their abilities as a tour guide.Take care!
A real tour guide will be able to present a certificate that they have obtained from University. Check the name on the certificate with their I.D. All Egyptians carry I.D.
This will show that they are a qualified guide.
I suggest you ask to view this certificate as a base line, to judge how good your guide is.
It is also important to ask questions.I suggest you make a short list of questions about about various sites. Such as who built which pyramid ?How old is the Sphinx? Before you hire them ask these questions.
Look up the answers yourself before hand. If they can't pass your test with flying colours, don't consider hiring them!
It doesn't matter who they say, their cousin brother or uncle is, or what benefits they may claim you will gain by going with them to their factories,as a bonus to the tour. This is a scam as they get commission on everything you buy.
Another good indication is if the guide is a member of the A.E.T.B.I. ( Association of Egyptian Travel Businesses on the Internet.,most reputable tourist guides are.It gives you some form of fall back, should you have problems.
I can only say choose very carefully and compare prices.
At present the A.E.T.B.I. is the only form of Government control on the tourism service providers.
Which means anyone can say they are a tour guide.
Even guides recommended by your hotel should be given the same scrutiny as would, one who approached you on the street.
I would suggest you do a series of day or half day trips with reputable tour companies.
You will be much safer that hiring a freelance guide.
Go to the Egyptian Department of Tourism's site , Tour Egypt. There you will find a list of all the members of A.E.T.B.I. members and all about the available tours.
There is lots of other information on this site, about everything regarding visiting Egypt.
I would also suggest buying a copy of The Lonely Planet Guide to Egypt. It is invaluable to anyone visiting Egypt. I still keep mine in my bag,all the time.
Good Luck and have a Wonderful Time.

Well, that's true. In Egypt people are allowed by the government to rip tourism off.. They are running after your money and they all know each others.. Well, I think that's not fair to do all the job that way in a country that's on a bed of corruption.. It's start at the airport.. These people can ripp you off by much mone as 70.00 L.E and it might be only 5.00 L.E for the local people.. Egyptian..
