I just bought a new mouse to fix the problem but it still happens, more frequently when I'm playing games.cords, usb port, all good, is there some virus or any system problem I should know about? xp home, optical mice, lights on both of them stayed on while the pointer stopped responding, I'm deeply confused...and it's not the surface their on...

sounds like you need more RAM.

The problem is the USB ports on your motherboard. A lot of times if you update USB drivers this will fix the issue. If unplug the mouse and plug it back it it should fix it. Also looking into getting the drivers for the actual mouse. Drivers end up fixing a lot of issues.

I think this is not to do with the mouse itself. The problem might be on your system or on the internet connection.
