How old are you and how old is grandma ? You should get along with your grand-mother, she is a lot older than you and won`t be around for ever. I adored my grand-mother and was devastated when she died. Remember she was young once, and `inside` her she probably still feels the same as she did at 20. Ask her to tell you about her boyfriends, before she married Grandpa, ask what she did and where she went, did she like clubs and dancing; Did she like school, was she good at school or sports. She could have been the school swimming champion or similar. Ask her what her job was and where she worked. Ask her about your mum /dad when they were young, I bet she is full of surprises and secrets, that no one has been interested in asking her about. Get to know her, get to like her, if possible try to forget that she is grandma and old; just think about her as another person. Grand-parents can be one of the more lasting and important influences on a young person. They have a life time of knowledge, experiences and wonder full stories to tell about life and living. A child without a grand-parent is among the most disadvantaged of all people.

Since you refer to her as snooty, there must be something she knows much about. Ask her some questions about that. If I know elderly people, it doesn't take much to get them rolling. Ask a few questions, and she won't be able to stop!
I really don't know if that last sentence is true, but it was worth a try =P

You should play the grocery store game....that will take up a long time. You say...."I went to the store, and I bought an _________." And you say something that starts with A. The she goes next, and says the same thing, but has to say your word first, like APPLE, then add hers on next...Banana! ANd so on and so on, all the way from A to Z, and back and forth. It may sound silly, but it's really fun and makes the time fly by.

Ask her what it was like when she was your age, or when she was a teenager. Ask her what did she like to wear, what was her favorite song, did she go to the dances, etc. I always had my grandparents show me their dances, and they sang me their favorite songs. I always made a point to break out with their songs when I was with them. Their faces would just glow.
