Emo was born in 1984 with Rites of Spring. It allowed hardcore rockers to become more personal in lyrics and melodies. Since then, Emo became enjoyable in 1994 with Weezer, and later Sunny Day Real Estate.

Although diminishing, remants of Emo can still be felt in bands today such as Jimmy Eat World and Nada Surf.

BTW, Emo is not Punk, Punk is not Emo.

Emo rock actually was from a genre called "emotive hardcore" that was popular in the late 80's and died out in the 90's... so emo as we know it today isn't even emo, it's just overly dramatic rock music that has a lot of 'EMOtion' in it, hence modern EMO.

Well, example bands are Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, Paramore, AFI, Good Charolette, etc.

Bands that try to look 'goth' but come off as 'gay'.

That's what most people think anyway...
