I never knew there was a hip hop era. I feel that the difference between now and back when I was younger is that a majority of people listen to more of a variety of music.
Back when I was in High School in the late 80s, every clique ONLY listened to one type of music. The rednecks listened to country, the goths listened to The Cure and REM, the punks listened to Heavy Metal and the black kids listened to rap and R&B.
But now, musical styles are started to mix more and people are more tolerant over someone elses choice of music. You have Rap in a rock song and rock in a rap song, etc. You got Tim McGraw doing a duet with Nelly. You have Country music on the same NOW cd as the Pussycat Dolls. Even Christian rock is coming mainstream.

I think country IS making a comeback! (I love country lol) But I'm startin to like hip-hop more, if I hear the songs from my friends first (my dad doesn't let me listen to "that hiphop crap" so I buy it on iTunes then listen to it---lol) But HIP-HOP is GOOD and I hope it's NOT "on its way out"!!!!!!!

It seems that hip hop and mainstream rap (Thank God) have become less popular. Sadly, it's being replaced with Pop and Emo...
