I believe they do (over a certain age). I learned them at school. We are lucky to have an education in the UK that teaches our children a more comprehensive view of the world than you have in America. Your education seems to me to be quite insular inasmuch as you know a lot about America and any other countries which might be politically interesting but not geographically interesting. Therein might lie the secret of why Europeans are generally accepting of other countries' cultures and why Americans sometimes find other countries' cultures "amusing and quaint". You did not have your minds broadened during your early educational years. Do you know where Wales is?

Why would an Englishman want to know all the names of the states in the USA? How many Americans could tell you the names and states in England? Ask your American friends and I'll bet you'll get some very interesting answers. ; )

I could probably name most of them, not sure if I could locate all of them on a map, but I would have a good go. Then aagain, do Americans know the name of all the UK Counties?

they do get them in school, but i doubt many will be able to name more than 10 at most.
but then again americans would maybe be able to only name one prefecture of the UK at most.

They might or might not, but since I'm not up on what all the counties of the UK are, I'm not going to get my nose out of joint over it.

I think so. They might get a few mixed up, for example, somebody might confuse Iowa and Ohio.
