We are seeing them now here in Asia, but it is my understanding that there are no immediate plans to bring them to the US. It just isn't the market for them. Remember the 318ti? Nice little car, but kind of a flop in sales in the US.

I have been scouring the net for info on this car and have discussed with BMW at Detroit and Toronto auto shows. The Audi A3 has been selling very well in Canada (they actually moved more units in Ontario than in the whole USA!) so that 1 Series is a no-brainer competition. It is widely believed that the 1series will be arriving on lots in the fall, but only in Canada so far. This is what BMW sales guys here in Toronto are saying. I actually got one as a cab in Cuba but it was a pretty basic stripped-down model. Hot hatches just don't sell in the US where the sport-ute continues to be king of the road.

RIght now, the 1-Series will go on sale in Spring 2007 in Germany. The rumours that the 1-Series is heading for the US have still not been confirmed.
