Hi,

2 Ways you can boot to safe mode. They are

Windows XP
MEthod 1:

If Windows XP is the only operating system installed on your computer, booting into Safe Mode with these instructions.

If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

Method 2:
To use the System Configuration Utility method

Close all open programs.
Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK
The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.
The computer restarts in Safe mode.
Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.
When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT" and click OK to restart your computer

Restart your computer. Immediately after it turns on again, start hitting F8. (computers are different, some require you to hit F8 at the BIOS window while others require you hit it while windows is booting up.) After hitting F8 the windows advanced options screen should pop up. Choose safe mode option on the windows advanced options screen with the arrow keys and hit enter. The computer should start in safe mode.

Go to start, run and type in (msconfig) without the brackets, click OK and a board will come up with 6 tabs, you want to click on the
(Boot. INI) tab under the boot options put a check in the box that says /safe boot and click apply and then yes to reboot, that will put you into safe mode! Remember to take it out of safe mode follow the steps you did to put it into safe mode, just remove the check mark from the box and click apply! Hope this works for you!

Yah at a certain point if you press f8 it should opt you to start in safe mode but it would really just be easier to keep pressing it over until something happens

Go to Start, run and type in msconfig

Choose the boot.ini tab.

Click the check box for safeboot.

Click apply and okay, you will be prompted for a restart and the machine will start in safe mode.

When you are done, do the same thing except uncheck the safeboot box. You will be able to reboot back to normal windows after that.
