do you think gatsby is great? why? give me some reasons because i am running out of reasns to why he's not great? :)

You have to admire Jay Gatsby on some level. Even though it's unclear as to how he became so wealthy (partly from bootlegging), he did do it! He was a self-made, self-invented millionaire who fell prey to too much money, ambition, greed, and the promise of new beginnings. "Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter--tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther.... And one fine morning--" Gatsby's rise to glory and eventual fall from grace becomes a kind of cautionary tale about the American Dream.

Are you talking about The Great Gatsby the book, or Gatsby in the book?
Actually, either way, the great gatsby is not great at all.
If you are talking about the book, it is boring, and if someone asked you what it was about, you wouldn't be able to tell them because the book is so....about nothing.
If you are talking about the person, Gatsby is not great. In fact, I think he's pretty psychotic. C'mon, he's been stalking Daisy for years, then he finally convinces her to cheat on her husband and tries to brainwash her into marrying him.
He's freaking crazy.

i think he is because he became extremely rich. I also don't think he's great because he became a bootlegger to attract Daisy, even though she was married to Tom. It is hard to get someone back when they have an affair with another man. He should of thought about the negative consequences that love can bring.

sorry as much as i would like to say the book is great. It is crap
i am truly sorry to those who love it but i am studying it 4 english and half the time i was like wtf?????
the most recent movie of it wasn't that great either
but like i said i am very sorry i spose he is rich but thats all. the book is werid full of old english. to anyone who is going to get their kids to read it they either need to update the book or don't give it to them unless they can actually understand and have the willpower to get through it.
once again i apologise for those who love it.
i don't mean to offend you i am just one of those people who doesn't like it.. I think its worse becasue i am studying the book 4 school
