I've been an Kansas Jayhawk fan for as long as I can remember. They've had their ups and downs throughout the earlier parts of the season, and the beginning of Conference play. They lost to Oral Roberts and DePaul, which aren't very good teams. They've seemed to tighten down a little bit over the past month, and right now they look like a Final Four team. The loss to Tex A&M was a bit of a letdown, blowing a 12 point lead with less than 3 minutes, and they almost blew the Okla. game as well. If they can pull it together and beat Texas on Saturday, then I think that the momentum can carry them through the Big XII Tournament, and well into the NCAA Tournament.
They've lost in the first round for the last couple of years, so you know that some of Sophomores (Brandon Rush and Julian Wright) will be thinking about that. It might give them what they need to get an early push in the Tournament. They'll have to play tough the entire time, though. No game in the Tourney is a "give me". They're going to have to work hard and fight the entire time, or they'll go home early again.
As a KU fan, I'll be watching every game and pulling for them 100%, but there's no guarantees with the Jayhawks.
My predictions for the Final Four: Ohio State, UCLA, Texas, Kansas.

Obviously, no team is a lock. But I do hold the minority opinion that they are, as of right now, the best team in the country. I honestly can't remember seeing a better defensive team in recent college basketball, with the possible exception of a few of Pitino's Kentucky clubs. Unlike Roy "aw shucks" Williams, Bill Self knows a fundamental principle of college hoops: the best offense is a good defense. And KU has the best defense.
These kids are youthful, engaging, intelligent, and take great pride in teamwork. Chemistry is something that was often missing from Roy's teams - they had the talent, but not the togetherness. That is certainly not the case with this team.

no one is a lock, and kansas is definitely included in that statement...they have been getting a lot of press lately for blowout victories and greatly improved defensive performances, but they have played some very bad teams in that time span and have not played one of the elite teams of the big 12 in that time...i think the game against texas this weekend will prove whether or not they are for real and are capable of winning a national championship, as well as answer the same question for texas

Given the way this year has gone, no one is a Final Four lock. A ton will depend on the seedings and how the brackets break down.

Yes...IF and only if...they show they can beat Texas this weekend and then win the Big12 tournament. this would go along way to show that they are peaking at the right time. Great defense, but it is their offense that will have to improve in order to go deep into the tourney.
