Why? for the games, graphics, or online?

It depends on your gaming preferences. A console is only as good as the games for it.
Also, check the graphics "difference" on the link below.
However my personal pros and cons for each console:
Xbox 360:
Pro:
Cheaper than PS3. Great Graphics and Sound. Great variety of games. Many games for PS3 are now for Xbox, as the sales for PS3 are not that good, and publishers make games for consoles that sell well.
Online Play with Live is the best online experience I had.
You're always able to see who of your friends is online and what they are playing, so you can join them immediately.
Free demos, and other stuff from the Live Marketplace. Try a game before you buy.
Has a HDDVD accessory. Should Blue Ray succeed and HD DVD lose, you could buy a Blue Ray accessory drive later.
Can connect with your PC to display MP3s, Pictures Video and TV on your Televison.
You can play your own music during gameplay. And if there are special cut scenes that have to have their music (e.g. one of your comrades in a War game is dying in a dramatic cut scene, it would runin the mood if you just happen to play "Don't worry, be Happy")
Cons:
Live subscription costs about $4 a month if you buy a 12 Month Live card.
PS3:
Pro: Onlineservice supposed to be free.
Cons:
Costs an arm and a leg.
Has few exclusive titles at the moment.
Graphics as good as XBox 360.
If the customers buy HD DVDs instead of Blue Ray, you will have an expensive gaming console to put next to your Betamax VCR.

I have a playstation 3, and it has the best graphical capabilities of any console, the graphics of the ps3 and the 360 look about the same now, but later once developers actually get the hang of making games for the playstation 3 and figure out the cell processor, the ps3 with dominate the competition, the playstation 3 is only running at about 20 percent of it's potential as far as games in development go, but the games will get better and better as the ps3 is figured out. The playstation 3 can also perform 2 trillion calculations per second, xbox 360 can't even do half of that. Meaning the ps3 can make smarter artificial intelligence, and have way more things going on in game than the 360. Also, the playstation 3 can create trillions of colors, 360 is somewhere in the millions range. PS3 is the technically superior console.

To claim that the 360 is at it's peak when some of it's main headlining titles (Halo 3, Mass Effect, BioShock, etc) haven't even had their debut yet is a huuuuuge stretch.... I've played both of them a lot, and right off the bat, I'd probably go with the 360. It's a lot cheaper, and graphically they're about the same. Most the the major titles that were deemed PS3 exclusive are now coming to the 360 as well. The xbox live marketplace also offers tons of full movies, videos, trailers and demos, that are updated daily. PS3's online interface is still very young, and could take a long time before its as fine tuned as the 360's (if it ever is.) PS3 has some good games, and a 700 dollar Blu-Ray player is nice... but if Blu-Ray goes the way of the beta-disk, and Xbox keeps nabbing exclusives, the PS3 won't be worth its weight in liverwurst.

Have the 360.. absolutely destroys anything on the PS3 right now. Not much worth playing on the PS3 at the moment, but that will improve in the distant future. Xbox Live outclasses both the Wii's and PS3's online services but you do have to pay $50/yr for the top online package.
Have the Wii and it rocks as well. Completely different experience to the 360 and just as good.
Had the PS3 and realized that its basically a $600 blu-ray player and nothing else. Not worth the money at all until real games are available.

the 360 is at its peak and the ps3 is just starting off. and they look similiar. the ps3 is going to be the best
