The belly and area right behind the gills is quite enlarged. The back of the area on both sides is a dark spot which has increased in size. Your local pet supplier probably has a birthing kit that is basically a plastic box that floats in your tank, has a V with a slot at the bottom of it midway down in the box. The female swims in the V area at the top of the box, when she gives birth the baby guppies fall to the lower part through the slot at the bottom of the V and neither the mother nor the other fish in the tank can get to them and eat them.

A female that is heavy with fry may become rather still. You may see her vent dilate with close observation just before the birth. Sometimes you can notice a black dot on her belly few days before birth.
Oh, remember to separate the guppy mom from the fry. moms can get cannibalistic. so can the other fish in the tank! if you didnt put the pregnant guppy in a breeder net or small breeder tank, make sure your tank is heavily planted so the fry can hide.

There is no magic way to know. They are of course very large in the belly and maybe even a little squared off around the back of her belly. They sometimes will keep low in the tank, near the gravel and sometimes they will hide in plants or behind structures. None of these things apply to every fish or every time, but they are all things you can watch for in the last day or two before she has the babies.
