I've never heard of those two being linked. It may just be a coincidence that you got your period, when a sickness started to kick in. So theres a good chance they're not connected

i'm a guy, but i've read a lot about different medical problems, so i'm answering anyway.
like the lady above me said, its probably just a coincidence that you're getting sick as you start your period. however, if you use a tampon, and you start to feel worse and worse, developing flu-like symptoms, call you doctor immediately. there is a chance it could be toxic shock syndrome (TSS) which is very serious.
its probably nothing though, i tend to get melodramatic sometimes.
