Motorcycles with carburetors require a warm, fuel injected engines require less. Carbs on bikes are rather simple instruments, and if the mixture is correctly set, must be warmed us a bit, especially in cool/cold weather. They have no temperature compensation built in, so must be warmed up to idle/run correctly. If you try to adjust the mixture so that no/very little warm up is required, you will find that you fuel foul spark plugs very often.

They wear out faster if you rev them too much before the oil has had a chance to get all the way around engine. Some parts only get lubricated by the oil splashing around so it has to be warm/hot to do this.
You can ride right away, as soon as it starts, but keep rpm low

It will stall, or run really bad depending on what it is. For motorcycles, when cold, they need to warm up with their choke or else you'll pretty much never get it started.

all internal combustion engines have to worm up.
they have to worm up, so metal parts will expand, and when worm up they will run better since it is designed to do so.
oil get smoother, gas burns better, piston and cyclinder's gap get closer makeing less gap for gas to escape. exhust pipe worm up means all the water will evaporates so no rust.
