Yes, he created a one-party dictatorship, the nazis (national socialists).

In some ways he was a good leader ONLY in that he helped to bring about economic reforms BUT BUT BUT he also killed millions, and so in most ways, he was not a good leader.

When Hitler took power there were multiple parties in Germany. He was able to suspend parliment (the reichstad) after a fire mysteriously burned the building down. Eventually all power was vested in the Nazi party. Hitler had good results as a leader especially early on in his regime, but any good he might have done was overwhelmingly defeated by the extreme evilness of his dictatorship.

By ruthlessly suppressing his opponents using the excuse that Germany was under threat from Communists.
He first of all attacked the communists with the support of most germans. He then attacked the Social Democrats and then eliminated all other power within his own party.
After all this bloodletting he then attacked the jews and homosexuals , and by this time most germans were to afraid to oppose him because the Nazis were in every controlling position in public life.
IT is true that Germany made a significant economic recovery under Hitler but that was financed by debt which could not be repaid unless he went to war to seize the assets of other countries. This he did in 1938 with the occupation of part of Czechoslovakia which was allowed by the rest of the world but when he invaded Poland in 1939 he found he was in WW2.
As for being a good leader, he had a very compelling personality and inspired personal devotion but he believed to much in his own judgement and as the war proceeded he interferred more and more in military decisions to the detriment of the German war effort.
His period of power was only 12 years.

he had charisma baby! Hitler would be a good leader if he won the war, cus we all would be worshiping him (gun to head).
but on the flip of the coin Hitler is a evil guy and a bad leader. he didn't really care about Germany, he only wanted power and glory for the third Reich. he lead his people to dispair. a good leader would put his people first. not let some dam commie take over half your freakin country

I can't answer you about how he created his hold, but I can tell you that under his reign the national literacy levels were at an all time high - just an FYI. One of the rare good points about him.
