i have a test in my bio class tomorrow...my teacher was nice enough to give us our essay question in advance...only problem is, i've looked everywhere and can't seem to find anything. the questions are:

-What process replaces damaged or worn out cells?
- Name two types of cells that reproduce, and why do they replace themselves.
-Name one example of a cell that does NOT reproduce

ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE IS MUCH APPRECIATED!

One example of a cell that does not reproduce is a brain cell. The other two I have not learned about yet.
EDIT: for number one all I know is the process which cells reproduce, and that is mitosis.
EDIT: for number two I know that cells reproduce to continue
their life cycle. Try skin cell and nerve cell, the cells that usually reproduce the most from my basic knowledge.

Well 1st the process that replaces damaged or worn out cells would be mitosis.
Two cells that reproduce: dermal epithelilal cells and any cells in the GI tract (look it up in your biology book) reason for replacing they do slough off if they didnt replace you would be skinless (dermal), in the GI tract you deficate them if they didnt reproduce imagine the consequences that your digestive system would have (being brief because its all in your bio book).
Brain cells in the nervous system dont reproduce what ever the amount you are born with is the amount you have. Sad because think of dementia or alzheimers.

mmm...actually, erythrocytes or red blood cells do not reproduce. They are made in bone marrow. The same for white blood cell or leucocytes too.

1. mitosis...you should have notes on this so just expand on it
2. somatic (body) cells do this including germline cells before you reach puberty
3. once you reach puberty these germline cells undergo meiosis and produce haploid gametes 1N,1n cells. so you could say a sperm cell, and and ovum (egg cell) do not undergo mitosis oh and it is also true that no prokaryotic cells can undergo mitosis
