will it cause a fire? I was trying to clean out the lint catcher while the dryer was running and it sucked it down, with some lint, before I had a chance to do anything. how do you get it out?

Probably not, but you should take the dryer apart every so often. You won't believe the stuff you'll find in there.

The chance of fire is very minimal. It's in the exhaust system now, don't be surprised if it turns up in the lint screen next time you check it. Otherwise it has passed to the vent duct leading to the outside. Locate the outside discharge outlet, take a small mirror, and with the dryer running, use the mirror to verify the flap in there is opening fully, you just might find the sheet there. Now, if it hasn't been found yet, it either blew out and is gone or it's still in the exhaust hose. It should be cleaned at least once a year anyway, so: unplug the electric cord, move the dryer out from the wall, remove the exhaust duct attached to the back of the dryer AND at the wall, clean both the duct and the tube in the dryer with a vacuum, preferably a shop vac. If you have a gas dryer, take care when moving it not to kink or strain the flexible metal connector used to connect the supply to the dryer. It's either 36" or 48" long so take care.
