I'm writing an analysis on a poem for Lit. class and I forget what it's called when a poet compares an non-living object to people

ex: a poet compares gas pumps to a sports team

Its called alliteration (i think thats how you spell it). When you give an in-animate object human like properties.

a metaphor if the comparison is direct

a simile if the comparison uses the words 'like or as'.

simile is comparing 2 thing using the words "like" or "as"
medaphor is comparing things using "is"
