That is not a bad price at all. If you go to http://www.24houredeals.com/Dell-coupons-23-mer.html you can get a 20% off coupon.
I would suggest upgrading your memory and get a larger HD pushing the price over $999. Use that 20% off coupon and spend $800 for some great upgrades.
Good luck.

It's a fair price, however, here just one example of a better equipped unit that actually cost less :
Bigger hard drive & a lightscribe dual layer DVD burner ... the Dell writes CDs but not DVDs:
Acer - Aspire Notebook with Intel® Centrino® Duo $699.00
AS5610-4537
Intel® Core™ Duo processor T2250; 1GB DDR2 memory; DL DVD±RW/CD-RW drive; 15.4" display; 120GB hard drive; Windows Vista Home Premium

I have a dell inspiron...sturdy enough...it was a second had laptop for me....it cleans up well mine is a dell Inspiron 7000 however, for all that i know about it, i would listen to the first answer from denise...she REALLy seems to know her stuff...and had i to do it all over again, i would NOT get a Dell. They make everything sound so good. I would go with HP in the future.marketing...is nearly everything..until they have your money. Denise is right.
I wish you the best.

If I was in your shoes, I would go to the closest computer store and compare what they have in stock with what you can get on the Internet. Then I would almost double the price of what I had found on the Internet because it is so much harder to get service from Internet sites.

one thing one should do is check out the after sales service with any computer one is going to buy, one needs to look at the reputation of these companies,
you will find that the big companies have a poor standing with their customers when it comes to after sales service.
do a search on here to see what is said about the four big ones
HP, Compaq, Dell, and Gateway,
other makes have better standing

Yes, I recently purchased one for the same usage requirements. I did a lot of price comparison shopping. That is a good price and hard to beat for options you are receiving.

Although I'm not really a Dell fan, in fact all my computers don't have brand names, it looks like a pretty good computer to me for a laptop. You can spend hours looking for what you want, need, and hope for, but in the long run they all are giving you the same thing.
What I did was get on a site like mwave.com and built it to my specs. using their base model. Anyway, go for it.

Great, big screen, powerful video card, lots of space and memory, and a DVD burner. If you want my advice its a great price for what you get but may exceed your needs. What I mean is maybe down grade the video card and memory to save a couple bucks, but hey that's a pretty sweet computer!

I wouldn't buy it, I would expect my hard drive to be at 7200 rpm's and my video card to be at 256( a lot of games require this), and almost all laptops throw in a DVD burner for free, your local walmart will give you a better deal, check walmart.com, and go to your local walmart and check their clearance areas, Jay
