Dear Diary, the most terrible thing has happened! It all started one normal day... I was minding my own business, caring for my flock, milking my sheep ,and making delicious cheese when some uppity Greeks, apparently shipwrecked on the fine island of the Cyclopses, show up unannounced in my home! Then the leader, some big-headed loser named "Nobody" (Nemo) has the audacity to lecture me on proper manners concerning guests and how to venerate the gods! So I show them whose boss by eating a few of his companions. Nothing like salty Greek sailor after living off cheese for so long.
I continue munching on these guys for a few days, sealing my homely cave with a giant boulder so they cannot escape when I let my flock of sheep out. One night, this Nobody guy shares his wine with me, and I get to thinking maybe he's not so bad after all and I kindly offer to eat him last of all...but then betrayal! Nobody gets me drunk on purpose so he and his deceitful friends can poke my eye out as I sleep! O the pain, the humiliation of being outsmarted by a little Greek man named Nobody! I call my friends to help me, but the other Cyclopses think I've had a bad dream! They do not realize "Nobody" is actually this trickster's name!
I can't see the little rats in my cave, and my sheep need to be let out to pasture, so I devise a wonderful plan. I move the boulder to let the sheep out, and feel each sheep as it passes outside to make sure those treacherous Greeks are not trying to sneak out too! But alas, somehow I am outsmarted, and the Greeks get away! I can hear Nobody taunting me from his ship, and though I throw many boulders to try to sink them, they sail away unharmed. But the fool told me his true name before he sailed; his name is Odysseus, and my father, the great god Posiedon, will make him pay for blinding me!
Hope this helps. I wish I had fun homework assignments like this!

Polyphemus is one of the most interesting characters in Greek mythology. Look at his arrogance (or confidence?) A being who knows the gods, but has no fear of Zeus? Get inside the guy's head - how would he react?

Well I saw the thing coming out of the sea
It had one long bow and one big sail
I commenced to shakin' and I said oo-wee
It looks like a lost Greek man to me
I was a one-eyed one-horned hungry Greek people eater
Sure looks good to me
Well, he came ashore with crewmen three
They said "mr. Greek People Eater don't eat me"
I ate the three and I belched so gruff
I wouldn't eat Outis 'cos he's too tough
I was a one-eyed one-horned hungry Greek people eater
But he sure looked good to me
He said "mr Greek People Eater what's your line"
I said eating Greek people, and it sure is fine
But that's not the reason that he came to land
He wanna get home and defend his land
He said, "bless my soul Mr. Greek people eater
Pigeon-toed under-growed big old people eater
one-eyed unibrowed Greek people eater
What a sight to see!"
Well, he swung from the tree and he lit on the ground
he started to pass the wine all around
It was a crazy buzz and we sang a tune
Wop bop a lula wop bam boom
one-eyes one-horned Greek people eater
Ooh, I sure looked strange to he
Well he went on his way and I fell asleep
And he drove a fire right through my peep
He was beaten' it out and really knockin' me dead
I called for help but my kin mis-heard what I'd said
I was a one-eyed one-horned hungry Greek people eater
I was a one-eyed one-horned hungry Greek people eater
I was a one-eyed one-horned hungry Greek people eater
And that's the end of me!
