Yes it is true, diamonds were mined in India from 4th Century, but were largely depleted by the early 1700s.

The next country for diamonds to be mined was Brazil from 1725.
South Africa wasn't until 1866.

Not at all. Diamonds have existed in many parts of the world throughout the ages. They were also mined many places besides India long before the 18th century. India has produced some magnificient stones, though, and under British rule was peaceful enough to become the leading diamond producer for a while.

yes. India was the only source of diamonds till the 18th century...only later were diamonds mined from other countries in Africa.

Golkunda and Panna were ancient diamond mines of India.
Indian diamonds are now in England as a part of loot.
