I already have a B.S. in Cytotechnology, but I earned that 25 years ago and haven't worked in that field for nearly 10 years. Since I would need some re-training to get back into that field, I might as well pursue an area of medicine I believe I might enjoy more than I did cytotechnology.
At this point in my life I'm not that interested in becoming a supervisor - I'd be quite happy just doing bench work - but mostly, I want to be employable.
Thanks!

I'd say a BS in medical technology with an ASCP certification would be more marketable. In most states you don't need to work with a supervisor on your shift and can be trusted with more duties. Plus most places pay more for the B.S. degree.

The words you opt for are scientific Technologists or examine Technicians. In my experience, different than the final twelve months of medical education for MT, the college curriculums for the two are comparable. MT is mostly a three-4 twelve months path, with an particularly final twelve months internship in a well being facility and taking an examination. examine technicians frequently have a level is biology or chemistry, with further experience working in a examine lab.

Beyond advising you to seek out a professional who can sit down with you and chat about this, I would just add this:
I have seen so many miserable people with jobs that do not suit their personality. They work, but find no real pleasure in it. You would be well served to determine precisely what tasks each position generally entails and then choose which one BEST suits what you would love to do every day you get out of bed for the rest of your life.
Good Luck with your critical choice.

If I was in your shoes, I would not accept advice on such an important topic from total strangers on the Internet. I would go to the closest college or employment agency which specializes in medical placements.
