enable's say the board is n x n squares and has x squares. n = a million ? x = a million n = 2 ? x = a million + 4 = 5 n = 3 ? x = a million + 4 + 9 = 14 n = 4 ? x = a million + 4 + 9 + sixteen = 32 There are consistently t² squares made up of t by t of the littlest squares. the final result's a million² + 2² + 3² + ... + n² squares. here, n = 8, so we've x = 204. we discover 204 squares in a checkerboard.
