As a mom, I'd give the anime the equivalent to an "R" rated movie. There's some content that younger kids and younger teenagers don't need to see.

Both the Chobits anime and manga are suitable for people 16 years old and up. The manga is a bit more sexually provocative than the anime, but the anime does have it's moments that would probably confuse a 12-14 year old.
There are adult relationship themes through out. Relationships such as a broken marriage, a relationship between a student and his teacher, personal feelings of loneliness & separation for the one you love and so on.
Chobits is an excellent series and one of my favorites. Enjoy it. Cheers.
