Build inbound links to your website.
Most of the directories online charge a one time fee to review your site and add it to their index. Here are three of my favorites:

The more inbound links to your site, the better you will rank
with Yahoo / Google / MSN.

Try a banner on people's websites and maybe a restaurant review website.
Birmingham - as in Alabama? I used to live there. Now I am going to have to check the site - see, this worked!

Go with keywords on local search or local city websites. Travel sites or mags could also be an option.
