Alexandra/Alexandria? (Read Discription)?

Iv'e noticed something in life. If someone is born and/or raised in the East side of the US, they call me Alexandria (When my actual name is Alexandra). When people born and/or raised in the West call me Alexandra like normal? There's no i in my name, so why do people do that? Is it an accent thing?
