okay, the Crusades inspired a dislike, nay, hatred for Muslims in Europe. Muslims were in Spain at this time (though different Muslims than Europe fought in Jerusalem, but that's beside the point) So the Reconquista was in fact a Crusade to win back the Iberian Peninsula from the Muslims.

(Who were actually a pretty tolerent bunch, especially of Jews. Ironic, huh?)

Reconquista Crusade

both the crusade and the reconquista were instituted or supported by the roman catholic church. both sought a cleansing of all that was non christian (target ---> Muslim)

Take back the holy land from the heathens says the pope.
Take by the Iberian Peninsula from the Moors says King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella.

One of the difference i can see would be that people came to the Holy land for riches and power and to be at the birthplace of Christ. At least to some degree Muslim and Christians could live beside one another.

The Recoquista was more hateful and sought to completly rid the peninsula of all thing muslim and non chirstian. At least they gave you a choice of convert or die.
