u can do the following things
1. cut the stems in a slant and always under water
2. recut them every two days or so or when u feel the stem has sealed itself (that too under water, never let air enter the cells)
3.change water every two days or so
4.add a bit of sugar
5. select a variety with long vase life

Cut them at an angle before you put them in water but not sure what else to use to keep them alive longer

You can try 75mg aspirin, or get some food for flowers at the florist. Also remember to cut them on a slant and change water every 2 days or so.

I had a client tell me to add 7-UP to the water. I always cut them at a slant under running water and recut them every other day to keep the stem from sealing shut.

My Mom uses a drop of ordinary household bleach in the water... she's been doing it for years, works a treat.

I also heard you can use maple syrup works the same as sugar.
