I need to know a European historical event (i.e.- crimeon war, industrail revolution, or the French Revolution) that is comparable to a global problem today (i.e.- the war in Iraq) and i need to explain to my teacher how we can learn from that Euro historical event to prevent further trouble today or how we could avoid an imminent problem that is bound to happen if we don't understand history. Could someone give me an idea?

The Japanese invasion of Manchuria.

The League of Nations protested the actions of the Japanese government and the Japanese government withdrew from the league. Japan continued to carry out its offensive and followed it up with invading China. The Japanese troops in China were instructed to kill unarmed men, women and children with the sword or bayonet in order to save ammunition.
The free world sat idly by absorbed in they own problems, and took little or no action against Japan.

The Munich Accord in 1938.

The world powers of France and Britain yielded to the threats of the Germans of taking the Sudetenland from Czech if not given to them freely.

Again the free world stood by and watched as the Nazis first took part of Czechoslovakia by threat then the rest by force.

These failures to act in the beginning ended up costing the world a 3rd of it's population. Roughly 63 million people perished during WW2. Had the Japanese and the Germans been stopped in the beginning maybe a only 1-2 million people would have paid the price.

Lesson, bad things do not normally going away on there own accord, it take good, brave, and courageous people to stand up and risk there lives to put down the evils that bad people can cause the world.

How about the Reconquista, when the Spanish took the Iberian Peninsula back from the Muslims.

You can compare it to the Muslims attempting to get rid of western influence in the middle east.

(Just like Israel was given residence in the Middle East after the Jews were all but destroyed in Europe, the Umayyads settled into Spain and stayed long after they were out of power in the Middle East.)

West now = tolerant of different religions; Muslims then = tolerant of different religions, etc. etc.

Why direct this to JWs? in accordance to the history Channel, each and every Christian denomination believes the final days began with WWI. the only distinction is they and a few others started asserting it in the previous 1914.
