No way.. The guy is nuts....
But since you have to be PRO Chavez for a debate. Here is one thing he did. Sheesh..
Chavez offered to ship 1,000,000 barrels of petrol to the USA after hurricane Katrina.

Chavez is not a friend of the US, which I think is a good thing. He is reversing policy which for decades has ensured that Venezuela is a third world country. The 'misiones', referendums and reforms are giving Venezuela's wealth to the people that matter the most - the voters (who incidentally have voted him in 9 times within 8 electoral terms despite an illegal US funded coup). Chavez will never be portrayed by the media as a friend of the US because Chavez is demonstrating an alternative economic system for a decent society. Remember, the US has a history of being frightened by alternative economic systems that at some time worked, such as Communism (Russia and China), Socialism (Latin America) or Islamic based share systems (Middle East)

True Hugo Chavez is no friend of USA right now. But, things could change, you never know. In politics even 24 hrs. is a very long shot. Why he is not a friend of USA -- because Chavez is basically a socialist and USA is built on capitalism -- two ideologies that do not see the same path -- not always anyhow. This answers both the why and why not! Hard to change the view and paths of one or the other. Watch politics -- it is interesting. Even the Great USSR crumbled at one time at the weight of its own mis-guided policies. Hope it helps.

It depends on who you are talking about when saying the U.S. If you are talking about the rich, politicians, or our corporations the answer is a likely no, he is not our friend. But if you mean the people of the U.S., the poor, working class, the middle class, and immigrants, yes he is a friend to the U.S.
Hugo Chavez and the people of Venezuela have donated millions of gallons of heating oil to poor American families that couldn't afford oil. He is definitely their friend.
There are things about America I don't like either, and George Bush may very well be the "devil", but does that make me anti-American? I don't think so. My folks have been liven here longer then the country has existed; we have cried, sweat, and bleed for it. Most of these hyper nationalist above are just a bunch of half-witted, Johny-come-latelies.

You should search a bit about Hugo Chavez !
Taken from the link below:
"Chávez's foreign policy conduct and anti-Bush rhetoric has occasionally reached the level of personal attacks. Chávez once referred to U.S. President George W. Bush as a pendejo, and constantly refers to him as Míster Danger. In a later speech, he made personal remarks regarding Condoleezza Rice, referring to her as a "complete illiterate" when it comes to comprehending Latin America. On September 20, 2006 Chavez called Bush "the devil"." And so on.

here in Venezuela we've consistently conventional Chavez to be a totalitarian monster who claims to be a socialist. not something farther than the reality, e.g., In 2003 he fired the completed workers of the Venezuelan oil industry, 23 thousand persons, confiscating not purely what became by way of them by potential of regulation, yet in addition confiscating their existence fee savings, throwing their toddlers from their faculties and their homes besides. Does this action seem to you as that of a popular socialist social gathering of, say, Europe, or the darkish doings of yet another Idi Amin?

I seem to recall him saying that we should all die and that he hated America.
I think you are fighting a losing battle on this one.
