It has been rumored for years that there will be an Alien 5. James Cameron, the maker of Aliens, started work on a story for Alien 5, but when he heard of Aliens vs. Predator, he thought that the crossover would "kill the validity of the franchise" and stopped work on his script. As of 2007 there are no plans for a 5th Alien film.

The Alien series stopped at Resurrection because it was not selling enough copies to fund a 5th movie.
The predator series stopped at predator 2 for the same reason.
After predator and alien went out of buisness they decided to make a movie consisting of the 3 races, human, predator, alien (with the predator as the good guy) this movie is called alien vs predator.
At the end of this year they are releasing alien vs predator 2 Battle Of The Fittest (that has something to do with the first 1).

Technically Alien Vs Predator is the fifth, but anyway:
UK Teletext reports that British director Paul W. S. Anderson ("Alien vs. Predator", "Resident Evil") is to write the sixth movie in the "Alien" franchise, according to sources close to the film maker.
Newcastle-born Anderson, 39, has apparently been asked by Twentieth Century Fox to pen a new script featuring the creatures on their own (ie. no Predators). Whether that includes the return of Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) however is unknown.
The offer for the moment is simply to pen the script, not to direct as such although that may happen thanks to the success of AVP.

I think a good Alien film would the bit between Alien and Aliens where the settlers land on LV426 and get killed by the aliens except for Newt.
