I agree, we have problems of our own. Blame it on those bleeding heart liberals.

That just a political trick, money what money, money is a fabricated part of our life, Africa is the UK's problem and China is moving in. Look there is not much the African nation has that belongs to them, so why would any government give more than is expected by other nations. Like america, china owns how much and the Saudis how much of america do they own
Then again define an American, even an Iranian or African can be an American

Unethical, no. It's about time we re-think our role in the world. To involve ourselves in every crisis in the world is not working. We are not the lone ranger. New Orleans and many other towns and cities along the gulf coast are still suffering which means the people who used to live there are struggling. Our borders are a mess, we're under invasion from Mexico and many of our good paying jobs are being shipped to places where labor is cheap and we have a money pit called Iraq.

I don't think this is the real issue at all. They'd like us to believe it's a choice. But if we stopped putting our money into wars and tax breaks for the rich, I really think we'd be able to take care of all of our countries needs and still have something left to give in foreign aid. Norway enjoys the highest standard of living in the world, and is also one of the top 5 when it comes to amount given in foreign aid. And the US is a supposed to be the richest country in the world.
But yes. We should use our money correctly, take care of our real needs, and give a little of what's left to helping Africa.

I say screw Africa and the boats that they try coming in on. They have pissed away our tax dollars for years without the slightest bit of sociol progression. Africa is just like the middle east, deeply rooted with tribal differences.
No way in 100 years or with all of Bill Gates' money will Africa ever beable to pull itself out of the sand. Why not keep the money here, isn't our childrens education important?

Based on our budget, I don't think we have to worry about defining "Helping Africans" as our number one concern.
I do agree with you, though. We are about 7 trillion in debt. The sooner we get our own house in order, the sooner we can start thinking about helping other people.
Unfortunately, that doesn't help Africans who are currently suffering, but for all of the critics of American policy, let them take up the slack when we step out.

We don't need to heal America, maybe just tone our egomaniac government down a bit...
and considering how poverty stricken Africa is,
It might not be unethical to think that, but it is selfish

I don't think it is unethical at all. Americans must look out for themselves and each other first. When we have Americans starving and living in substandard condition in the United States, then they should automatically come before Africans.

We don't make it our number one concern, but it doesn't matter. No amount of money will change Africa. Only a change in governments will. Capitalism, contract law, private property rights, etc, are the key to wealth building. When we send money to African nations, we are sending it to gov'ts., who use it to reinforce their brutal regimes.

The question is not whether helping ourselves as oppsoed to Africa is unsthical. there are actually twop question that need to be answered.
A) Did we directly cause the 'wound' in Africa?
B)If, and only if, we did cause this wound, is it unethical to shun that certain responsiblity, or simply selfish?
For argument's sake, let's say America is the DIRECT cause. I feel it unethical, as well as selfish, to simply ignore our mess in someone elses yard to rake our own leaves, if you get the drift.

people are people. what we in America sometimes consider pretty bad would be like heaven to people in Africa and other places.
what we need to do is band together and get a better system for helping everyone.
