What is considered a small town? What population? And what is considered large?

Is 45,850 large or small?

It really depends on the perspective of who's judging it. Someone who lives in a city of several million people would think 45,850 is a small town, even though it's definitely NOT the kind of place where everyone knows everybody else. Someone from a rural area would think of it as big. Personally I'd call 45,850 a small city. It's definitely bigger than a "town", but it's not metropolitan.

Personally, I would consider anything over 5,000 a large town. I'm from a town of 191 and it is definitely a small town. I would consider 45,850 a city not a town.

I live in a town of about 1,000 people in the winter maybe 1,500 in the summer. We actually refer to it as a village. I consider this small.
