I hope you are on thyroid meds. Once on thyroid meds, you should be shooting for a morning TSH under 2.0. Most like to see it around 1.0 for weight loss.

About weight loss and thyroid meds......the meds usually do not help you lose weight. What they do is help you maintain and make it possible to lose with diet and exercise, but only if your TSH is below 2.0.

I'll put a few thyroid links below. I think they will be of great help to you.

Thyroid problems can indeed interfere with weight loss. A low level of hormone put out by the thyroid can cause your metabolism to be slow which makes it harder to lose weight. The opposite is also true. Having an overactive thyroid can cause unplanned weight loss. The hormone level you're referring to is probably something called TSH, which is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland. This hormone stimulates the thyroid, and if the thyroid itself is not producing enough hormone, the pituitary will make more TSH to compensate. Once the body has enough thyroid hormone, the pituitary will decrease its production of TSH. For an underactive thyroid, the treatment is to replace the hormone that your thyroid isn't making, which is done by a pill. For an overactive thyroid, the treatment is a different pill that calms down the thyroid and causes it to produce less hormone. Definitely follow up with your doctor and make sure that your other hormone level, known as free T4, is okay. If not, you'll need medication.

It is a misnomer that thyroid problems affect weight loss. Yes, thyroid problems can make you feel sick and depressed. But once you get regulated and medicated (something you MUST do) losing weight is all up to you. You're doing the right things so get your thyroid checked and you'll be fine.
