Appeal over baby named Jihad
Kate Connolly in Berlin

The Guardian
The German interior ministry is appealing against a decision by the Berlin authorities to allow an Islamist to name his son Jihad, the Arabic word used for holy war.
Reda Seyam fought for 18 months for permission to give his sixth child the name after the registry in the Berlin district of Charlottenburg initially rejected his application, saying the name was inappropriate because of its association with terrorism, and "may endanger the child"...

What does your follow up to your question have to do with oil? Oil is only part of the battle in the middle east. Yes, we must protect our supplies, however, there is a great deal more to the turmoil than oil. What you need is a history lesson on America's international affairs and on the middle east and their constant upheavals over the centuries.

So the common way out is to blame the "war" in the Middle East over oil. I'm not certain which war you are talking about. Tribes have been fighting and killing each other in the Middle East for over 4 thousand years; long before uses of fossil fuels were realized.
In the most broad definition war is defined as "a violent conflict between two or more groups involving large numbers of individuals". The US defines war as a violent conflict between two or more "nations". The Philistines, Goths, Israelites and other tribes of the Middle East fought each other for basic needs. A potentially unlimited population with finite resources. So I guess we can agree that the "war" in the Middle East has been going on for many years, long before Europe or the US wanted more oil.
In the late 1930's a PAC was made with the then rising star Adolf Hitler and leaders of the Arab nations, predominately Egypt and Persia, for the eradication of the Jews throughout Europe. In exchange for Germany throwing it building military strength against these enemies of Islam, Persia and Egypt would allow concessions to the undeveloped oil fields from Northern Africa north. Of course many other countries were then interested in development of these resources also.
This is really the biggest part that oil has played until around the late 1960's when Islamic nations began using their vast wealth gleaned from gouging oil profits to finace terrorism within the Hebrew and Christian nations. So I guess that if you want to say that the reason for the US or Britans war with Afganistan and Iraq and the progression of problems in the Middle East is because of oil then I suppose you could be correct; if the Islamic nations had no oil, they would not be able to fund their continued terrorism on the peaceful nations of Europe and America. Make no doubt about it, if Islam had it's way we would all be stuck with our butts in the air and our noses in the dirt worshipping a handful of clerics before we went out to kill others like us but of a different sect.

I note that you pointedly omit the next paragraph from the (rather good) Guardian article:
"This week a court overturned the ruling, on the grounds that Jihad was "a recognised male forename in the Arab world and loved by Muslims"."
Fair and balanced as ever, I see.

There's always "more to it: no matter the issue. And so we read and research and talk and exchange ideas. Then we make up our own minds. And yes, it's all about oil. Even the Nigerians are getting smart. Okay white man, they offer. You come here and steal our oil. You live in gated communities with all the luxuries, most of which were purchased with OUR oil monies. Meanwhile we live in filth and squalor. You offer us nothing. And so, as in South Africa some years ago, we take it back. Our farms, our diamonds, our gold. Oh you may well call us militants. But when you massacred the indians, you called yourselves patriots.;
