Are you joking? They had a dictatorial king who professed to be the the son of the sun and a population who believed it. There was no interplay because the two were one.

The Aztecs were a theocratic society. The word interplay creates the sensation of there being two forms of activity and with the Aztecs there was no two systems there was only one where all of their activities from the most common to the most specific was one of religious adoration of their Gods.

The aztecs normally had a daily human sacrifice and they would have a feast and play games after that. Also they would pray over their human sacrifice.
