They reported to the press that they do not believe his suicide was out of desperation, but was a well-thought out act resulting from Thompson's many painful medical conditions. Thompson's wife, Anita, who was at a gym at the time of her husband's death, was on the phone with Thompson when he ended his life.
What family and police describe as a suicide note was delivered to his wife 4 days before his death and later published by Rolling Stone Magazine. Entitled "Football Season Is Over", it read:
"No More Games. No More Bombs. No More Walking. No More Fun. No More Swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun — for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. Relax — This won't hurt"

Well, he was pretty out there by the time he committed suicide, and probably didn't expect to live that long, it sounds like he didn't have much expectation to live past 50. The only reason he gave was his suicide note:
Note Title: "Football Season Is Over"
"No More Games. No More Bombs. No More Walking. No More Fun. No More Swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun -- for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. Relax -- This won't hurt."

because life is garbage and the people eventually become fed up with it. i am just surprised he chose such a violent end. i mean you could shoot yourself with less messier endings than a gun. he should've done a massive speedball. he probably didn't have any veins left. he was definitely on a bender anyway, so i guess that qualifies. he should have slit his wrist in a bathtub, but that would have been something for somebody to ***** about anyway. i am sure he would have took a pill if he had the option.

I doubt it had anything to do with 9/11. Read his work and his suicide makes complete sense with respect to his personality. I heard he was planning on doing it for a long time anyways, giving hints to that effect etc.
