Well, I view it like this. I don't know how many people live like this, but, my family has had to work by the skin of it's teeth to get things that should be basic services in this country. Our power regularly went out, sometimes the running water didn't run, or was a pale mucky sludge flecked with iron, at best... I know kids who did worse, though, certainly.

America never was, never is, and never will be a third world nation. I am convinced in my heart that we are great people, mostly, and our country just happens to be screwed up by our political elite, who pander to both sides of the political spectrum, but in reality, they only serve their own bigwig interests. However...

The wealth generated by our fifty states for our collective use is being funneled to big, dark projects now adays. I don't know if it'll end soon, but I hope it will. My nightmare is that if I ever have kids, they'll grow up in this day and age, and they won't be able to live the American dream we're all entitled to. This is our country, and even if it won't become a third world nation... I do get scared, really scared sometimes. But, the economy won't 'collapse'. It's entire purpose is to generate wealth for the elite: An economy is only a plan. It might continue to break the backs of those who make it possible, though..

We just have to grit our teeth and fight, though. That's what I say. They'll take our rights over my cold dead hands, hahaha... Good man said that. A man who marched in the civil rights rallies back in the day, even if no one remembers that nowadays... Anyhow, good question. Let's just hope that we never fall. As long as people aren't afraid to ask questions or defend their beliefs, though.... I don't think it will. Ever.

The USA is already a human rights abuser as it approves sexual acts that promotes AIDS and disease through the lack of laws.Next the USA knows that misery and addiction makes more money than promoting good health as gambling turns a country in a poor country and La's Vegas should become a place of good food and entertainment not gambling entertainment taking the souls of people who become entranced to the flashing lights and offer there wallets to the owner of the house for nothing .This is what i call EVIL America as people need the chance to bring up a family in a home without th threat of an empty plate during dinner and television ,drugs and gambling is destroying the family that brings joy and not misery to the world .One day Caesar will be crushed .America is not a great Egypt as the might Egypt fell for being to greedy and i suggest that America give back Cleopatra's needle as it has cursed America.

"We'll always be the greatest nation in the world," squeals J BeanB with breathless optimism.

Just like the British did in 1800.
And the Dutch in 1650.
And the Spanish in 1500.
And the Franks in 1100.
And the Romans in 250.
And the Assyrians in 700 BCE.
And the Egyptians in 1100 BCE...

I think you get the point. Get back to your homework and learn a bit a history, J Bean.

this one was also asked yesterday.

In terms of being a third world country, in some respects you already are, technically. Criteria such as adult literacy, health care, reliance on primary production, vulnerability to natural disaster, trade imbalance and debt, channelling wealth into conflict....the USA meets all of these, as well as those of the first world. And the fourth world also resides in the form of the disenfranchised indigenous peoples. My country is precisely the same.

The thing that seperates countries like us and the third world is the ability to export ingenuity, technology, because without these we're still just farmers and we import sooo much. idon't think these gifts, which are a product of a belief in education, will disappear from our countries anytime soon.

Please America has always been an adaptive nation. We have natural resources and an Research University system second to none. We have food, water, an industrial infrastructure, and telecommunication that is state of the art. Just in the last administration we were able to earn Federal Surplus without cracking a sweat. So, your demise will only happen when that inevitable asteroid hits the earth again...when it does, who cares because it will all be over.
