several things were wrong with WCW.
I think it started going down when they started the guarenteed contracts. They had terrible booking and they had to big of a company running it. Unfortanitly they wasted tons of money and it didnt help that most of the people behind the scenes at wcw knew nothing about wrestling. They milked the NWO angle for way to long and in the process made fun of there own brand WCW. Not smart for the long term also they faled to come up with one other worthwhile storyline in 5 years. They were unorganized and had to book to much tv and because of all the tv and ppv's they did alot of booking on the fly instead of building storylines. Also hiring Russo was a big mistake.I could go on but thats the jest of it.

WCW started out as a great little promotion. When Vince would not sell WWF, Ted Turner bought the struggling NWA and reformed it as the World Championship Wrestling. Everyone knows how deep Ted's wallet used to be. Ted dumped LOADS of cash, bought up allot of big names and pushed his staple WCW originals like Sting and the Four Horsemen. The biggest problem I believe is that they got to big, to quick. There were some HUGE egos running around that had the ears of the top management. The final straw I believe was they let the inmates run the asylum! Active wrestlers had full control of their story lines, some even wrote them themselves. I honestly believe that the promotion could have been saved if Vince Russo's plan of the Young Bloods vs. the Millionaires Club had started earlier. That was actually a great concept because of the ego issues and the older well named stars being pushed over younger guys. It would have been a great vehicle to put some of these younger guys over. Unfortunately it came a little to late.

Backstage politics. When you have people like Hogan and Nash who have total creative control, you really have given total power to egos that should have retired a while ago.
WCW would have good ideas, but they would run it into the ground, The nWo was great when it first started, but it got old fast when the whole roster of WCW was either nWo black and white or the WolfPac.
They completely destroyed the credibility of the championship when they had David Arquette as the champ. And they held back many talents.
Plus two words that really caused the downfall of WCW and will eventually cause the same for TNA...... Vince Russo!

There is no one answer to this question. I'm not going to even try to correctly ansewer it. I was a huge WCW fan. The time it started to get a little stupid was around the time of the split of the nWo. WCW did not know when to kil a popular thing while it was hot. The nWo, much like WCW, has such nebativ memories now

I believe that AOL Time Warner refused to stay subsiding the company. From wrestling expert's point of view; the big names like Kevin Nash, Sting, Goldberg and others were overused and they didn't leave space and time for up and coming talent. Also, the angles became few and there weren't too many feud variety. I think the company the owned WCW was as rich as WWE and couldn't cope with the loses. WCW wasn't producing any profit.

I think that with a better management they would've been around today! It was really nice.
