I just started running track a few weeks ago and the past weeks my ankles have been bothering me a little, i took a break for a day from running, and they seemed to get worse, the past two days that i was running it was terrible, i had to stop, and i iced them. It feels almost as if i twisted them, but I couldn't have since both of them are hurting, that's too coincidental. Anyone know what's going on?

You probably have shin splints. You need to stretch very well before running, and avoid running on hard surfaces like pavement if you can. Tracks usually arn't that bad if they are nice ones, but tell your coach about it (he'll know what to do best). If you have a football field inside of the track at your school, ask if you can run on the grass during practice. You won't run as fast, but you'll save your shins and knees a little more. The main thing is to avoid hard surfaces... don't run on sidewalks and such if at all possible.

You probably tweak them, it may be a good idea to wrap them in a ace bandage and if they swells you may want to take a anti-inflammatory med like ibuprofen and elevate them and they get worse seek a orthopedic advice.

it might be your shoes. are you wearing running shoes? if you're not wearing the right shoes, it can give you shin splints, and maybe make your ankles hurt. mine were like that! but i think it was from VERY high heels for the dance. haha

maybe you just need to lay off for awhile and let them heal before they get worse
