Ok. I have this big test coming up. I need to know how, EXACTLY how, Granite forms into Sandstone. I need the explanations why and I need it step by step. I'm failing science big time and if I do good on this test, it'll bring my grade up alot. So, once again, I need to know EXACTLY how Granite forms into Sandstone. Step by step, and explanations why. I would really appreciate you guys' help. So, if you can help me, I would GREATLY appreiciate it. Thanks all!

You mean, how does an igneous/metamorphic rock turn into a sedimentary one?

OK, erosion breaks down the metamorphic rock. Wind, water, rocks breaking it down into sand particles. Also, water freezing in cracks in rocks breaks up big pieces. Wind blasts pieces of rock and sand against rocks and breaks off little chunks. Water washes off pieces of rock, or it carries rocks and mud and stuff (like if there's a flood and the water's all muddy and dirty) which knock against the rock and break off pieces.

Then, when you get the big rock turned into sand, it gets deposited, usually along a river bank or a sand bar or at the bottom of a lake. The little pieces are in the water and then they settle down out of the water to the bottom.

As the sand gets deposited more and more, the pressure eventually pushes all the little grains of sand together into a rock, rather than just sand in a big pile. Sandstone is still sand, but it's compressed into rock.

Unlike a metamorphic rock, sandstone doesn't actually turn into another kind of rock. Like, some rocks, under pressure, change their crystal structure and form some other rock entirely. Sandstone is still just sand.

Kinda like a Rice Krispy treat--the krispies get pressed into a solid slab. But they're still krispies in the slab.

I hope that helps and good luck on your test!

You need to sit down and READ your textbook. They wouldn't be asking the question if the answer wasn't in the book or in notes given by the teacher.
