I applied for a job that I'm completely qualified to do. When I got an interview I pretty much aced it and thought I'd be working for this company soon. After a couple months I was called back for what I thought was going to be a second interview but I ended up signing a mountain of paper work and going to take a drug test. I thought surely this means I got the job and everyone I asked said the same. Several weeks went by with no word so I called the person that interviewed me and she said, "Oh don't worry I haven't forgot about you, I'm just waiting for the paper work to be processed and then I'll get you started." A few more weeks went by and still no word. Then I get a later from a company that did the back ground check on me, it pretty much said everything was good (I'm not a crook) It has now been about a month since I took my drug test and I'm still not working. What is the deal??? I know it doesn't take this long to decide does it?

They wouldn't spend that much time and effort on you if they weren't considering you for the position. With that being said, something could have happened between the time you applied and interviewed and the present. A hiring freeze could have taken effect, a merger, downsizing, etc.

Don't put your eggs in one basket. I'd avoid this company. 3-4 months and they still haven't made up their minds??? I go crazy when my managers take 6 weeks.... And that's with good reasons (like trade show season).

Really anything longer than two months means they are disorganzied, and the hiring manager probably can't decide and wants to see more and more candidates. My experience has been managers like that (if this is the case) are the worst to work for.

Find another company that respects you and your time and is willing to give you the scoop in half the time. You will be much happier in the end.

One should not depend too much on just one offer. Go find yourself other interviews and who knows other offers may come sooner than the first. Don't be overly confidence that you'll get the first job. This is a cruel world.
