I just had my first ultrasound, and it showed that i was 6 1/2 weeks along. I am supposed to be at 8 weeks according to the first day of my last period. If i am 6 1/2 weeks i do not think that i had sex at the right time of ovulation. My doctor said that I could have ovulated at a different time as i thought, and that happens all the time. Or he said there is a chance that i could be miscarrying. I feel absolutely fine, no cramping, or anything. he told me to go for another ultrasound in 10 days. How worried should i be?? Has anyone else heard of this??

It's not at all unusual to have a 2 week window either way for a discrepancy on the dates. My daughter was supposedly conceived on a weekend that I was in bed sick with the flu and 101 fever. Believe me, the LAST thing I was doing was getting pregnant that weekend.

A simple answer to the question of "when" is that not every cycle is exactly 28 days. You could have had a 30 day cycle, or a shorter cycle, or one even longer which would mess with the dates of when you actually got pregnant. Unless you were actively charting or using an ovulation prediction system (which can be inaccurate sometimes) then it's difficult to pin down the exact time you conceived. Hence the reason they go by LMP. That's mostly a good starting point, not an exact way of determining when you got pregnant.

Try not to worry. I know you probably will anyway, but the odds are that everything will be fine, and in 10 days you'll get to see your baby again!

(On a side note, I have to say I find it odd that your dr would tell you that you "might" be miscarrying and then not do a test to check your hCG levels while you're in the office. Are you comfortable with this doctor? Could you maybe find another you like better?)

hey. thats what happened to me when i went for my first ultrasound.my dr. tried to tell me i got pregnant around the 8th of Aug. when my boyfriend left for iraw on the 25th of july and that was the LAST time i had sex. And i knew it for sure so it made it easier to figure out what was going on for my Ultrasound to show different. but basically it came down to my baby is just small and there are tons of reasons to have a small baby and not all of them are to do with bad habbits or anyhting.but anyway..when i went for my 28 week ultrasound my baby weighed in at 2.7 lbs which was about .7 more than they expected so they said i was more like 29 weeks instead of 28. Plus keep in mind that ultrasounds arent accurate within more than 2 weeks...if you are over 13 weeks the baby grows at different rates. So dont worry if you know when your "about" conception date was then go with that because they will throw you around if you listen to everything the Dr tells you. Good Luck

each and every infant and being pregnant is distinctive. till you commence having signs and warning signs of miscarriage, do no longer even think of roughly it. some toddlers are patently small fantastically if there are kinfolk genetics that experience that. additionally, now and back calculations could properly be off. reckoning on once you ovulate on your cycle may additionally consequence the dimensions. They count variety weeks commencing out of your final era, yet once you ovulate a week later than maximum or in the experience that your cycle is longer than maximum persons of girls people accessible then it could look smaller. stop stressing. rigidity will make issues greater durable for you and the infant and that could carry approximately a miscarriage, so basically breathe and don't assume that for the reason which you're no longer the norm that it skill something is misguided.

It's too early to tell anything really, you can't even detect a heartbeat until after 8wks, and if your Dr. was too concerned that you were miscarrying he would have sent you to the hospital... These scans aren't always right so don't be too worried... time will tell just go about as regular until then... and just so you know by my calculations and the Dr. calculations I was a whole month ahead of my suppose to be due date so these kind of things happen....

They want the next ultrasound to show growth. They dated my baby a week and a half younger than what she was. I knew FOR SURE the exact day I got pregnant. She turned out fine. They just want to make sure your baby is growing and they will approximate a due date based on his/her size. Don't stress yet.

don't stress, hun, they did the same thing for me! I was disappointed at first, but they do it simply for calculating when you're due. the reason being that all babies at that stage are about the same size, so it's a really accurate time to see when you'll be due. you're fine!
