I am having a big, strong chocolate martini and need something to take my mind off of my wonderful evening.

You definitely need to watch a comedy, something that is nearly totally mindless. I had to go through the dementia into alzheimer's journey with my Dad a few years ago.
I hope that your Mom and you are getting some help. My Dad had to go into assisted living, as it was impossible to take care of him at home; as much as I wanted to do so.
It was extremely difficult to deal with him forgetting who I was, or calling me by my Moms' name or one of his siblings. There were quite a few nights I would end up wanting a strong drink and mindless t.v. just for a break.
There are support groups available for the families of alzheimer's patients, and I joined one just to get other peoples perspectives, so you don't end up feeling so alone. You can check with your local hospital or nursing home they will usually have a social worker that can help you find some help for yourself and your Mom. Best of luck and enjoy that martini.
