In video games downloads what is mods?

Im trying to download this game, but I have different mods to choose from, and I dont know if it is the actuall game or some patch

A mod is a user created change to the game. Sometimes this simply means a different "skin" or look for a character, and sometimes it is a completely new chapter or part of the game.

Essentially mods are patches that were created by users, not the games developers.

mods = modified versions and these are like SIms patch. NOT the actual game
