Maryland has the mental toughness right now, and it doesn't matter how inconsistent they were at the beginning of the season, all that matters is how you play down the stretch. Winning 6 in a row, 2 against Duke and one against UNC, isn't a bad way to finish out a season. Here's what Coach K thinks after last night's game:
"Maryland is playing lights-out basketball," Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "They played as well against us tonight as anybody has played against us all year. I think they could go against anybody."
That from a guy who has coached against Maryland and Gary Williams for 16 years, so I think he knows what he is talking about. Maryland now has the longest win streak in the ACC and finish up at home with NC State (14-13). They beat them by 15 in Raleigh, so it shouldn't be much of a problem, and no, I don't think it is a trap game either. Maryland can go far in the ACC tourney, possibly win it all if they keep playing the way they are, though I don't know if a matchup with UNC on a neutral court would have the same outcome as before. They're projected as a 4 seed as of now, dependent on what happens in the tournament. The fact is their confidence is sky high, the seniors have put the team on their back, and they are gonna get a good draw for the NCAA Tournament and will likely be able to make it to the Sweet 16 no problem. With that said, I think that they are an Elite 8 team, but you can never tell with momentum, they could keep it through the entire tournament, and remember that the seniors on this team have had to deal with not making the tournament the past 2 years after Maryland had made it the previous 11 in a row. I don't think that just making the tournament is enough for them, they want to go out on top. So happy I'm not gonna be sweating out another Selection Sunday :).
And a 10 seed? Gimme a break. 23-7 teams with a 7 game win streak to end the season don't get 10 seeds with a sweep of Duke and win against UNC. And who was the Duke fan saying they hope they won't get in? That's a foregone conclusion by now.

Who was the clown that said Maryland would get in with a #10 seed? When the new rankings come out next Monday, the overlooking of the Terps by the voters will be ancient history. They should catapult not only into the top 25, but top 15 as well. And they will.
This is a #4 seed at worst. The way they play together reminds me of my beloved Jayhawks, and Gary Williams is vastly underrated. This team CAN make a Final 4 run.

I believe the Maryland is surging at the right time. They are coming of two tough wins against UNC and Duke. These wins will lift their confidence, and boost them to a higher seed in the tourney. I believe that they will go to at least the Elite Eight, possibly the Final Four. By that time there will be three other talented teams that probably have more talent or experience than Maryland.
The ACC tournament finals will be UNC and Maryland.

As a Duke fan, i am very disappointed with the Blue Devils this season. I must tell you though, sweeping the blue devils, beating NC and clemson, those are quality wins. Here is the situation. As of March 1, 2007, at 8:30 p.m, they can be a 4 seed in the south. Very good because they will face underdogs till sweet 16.

IF they get in (and I hope they don't) they have a good chance to make the sweet 16 if Mike Jones and DJ Strawberry keep playing like they have been. I think they may run out of steam by then considering the ACC tourny is coming up soon. Being a Duke fan, I hope they lose in the first round, but realistically, they could go to the sweet 16..no further though, too many good teams out there right now.

as a carolina fan, i have to say that if the terps continue their momentum they can be an elite 8 team, although i'm not ready to commit to them as a final four possibility...however, if they have trouble going into the tourney they might end up going out in the first round...the bottom line is that it depends completely on their draw

I've already answered this question. They've had some good wins which consist of sweeping Duke, beating Clemson, and defeating Norht Carolina. Those, in my opinion are very hard-earned wins. True that Duke is not at the top of their game, but beating Duke at their homecourt is always a challenge.
My prediction is that they'll get in. They should get with at least a #10 seed, if not better. They might get a first-round win, but you never know.

They are a dangerous team, but also a streaky one, I like to see them win, depending on their seed, if they get a decent seed and dont have to play a 2 or 3 seed in the second round, I say they are at least sweet 16 material

I wouldn't be surprised to see them continue their recent success and crash the sweet 16 party, if not a little further. Final four is probably out of the question, though.
